In addition, the registration process was to be optimized and the social media presence automated. The Volkshochschule Wil offers a comprehensive course program for all ages. Besides their talks, they also offer excursions and courses that not only serve the purpose of personal growth, but that also facilitate community involvement.

Website Conception: Timely And Content-Related Planning

In the first step, we consulted our contact persons at Volkshochschule Wil. In the course of our meeting, we defined the project’s goals and deadlines. As such we defined the website’s development, reviewing the website’s content, redesigning an individual logo as well as expanding the website’s functions.

Project schedule: Before the official project start, we determined our internal, free capacities. In the next step, we defined every single work step and areas that were required. These were then assigned to our coworkers and our design and development teams. Herewith, Dinnova AG can guarantee that the project will be completed on time – whilst still taking into account buffer times to handle unforeseen challenges and change requests.

Idea generation & design: When it came to the VHS website’s and the corporate logo’s design, our design team created a so-called Style Guide. This design manual presents all available colors, fonts, font sizes, design elements and layouts. Therewith we are able to specify a uniform appearance for the online presence as well as the logo. Customers will associate the latter and the colors with the Volkshochschule Wil from now on. Furthermore, the right motif and color choice conveys certain characteristics and properties. In the case of the VHS Wil, we chose the complementary colors blue and yellow. The latter stands for joie de vivre, fun and intellect, whilst blue increases focus and has a calming effect. It is these emotional states that the VHS wants to promote by organizing courses and events that stimulate the intellect and provide fun and relaxation. Thanks to the redesign, we were able to give the Logo a new face, a harmonious aesthetic and a unique corporate identity.

The same applies to the new online presence from its menu to the buttons and the integrated pictures, everything reflects the new brand personality that the VHS has adopted. Both the website and the logo look more modern and convey that the Volkshochschule is on the pulse of time.

Function extension: Our main focus was the expansion of the website’s functionalities. So far, visitors could only view courses. Yet, if they wanted to sign up for them, they had to write a separate email to the VHS. Then, VHS employees had to check the current status of the respective course in order to send a confirmation or rejection regarding the course registration. Has the course reached its capacity of students? In this case more prospective customers may have signed up for it via email – only to then find out that the maximum number of participants has already been reached. This process comes with many time-consuming work steps for VHS employees. And it also causes a lot of frustration when customers find out they signed up for nothing.

This is where Dinnova’s digital solution can help: from now on, interested customers can register for a course via the website without sending another email. Subsequently, they receive an automated email letting them know that their registration has been successful, is pending or has been canceled (because the course no longer takes place). In case of a confirmation, users can add the workshop’s or event’s date and time to their Google Calendar with only a few clicks – and thus make sure they don’t miss it. And last but not least: the new function enables not only getting an overview of the number of participants, but it also prevents customers from registering for nothing. When the maximum capacity of participants has been reached, interested customers can no longer register.

In addition, Dinnova AG improved the client’s social media marketing. Nowadays, the latter is an absolute must-have and is amongst the most important channels to reach new and existing clients. As soon as the VHS Wil publishes a new course, workshop or event, the system automatically creates a post on social media. The post includes the title and content of the course as well as a direct link to the website. Therewith, the VHS can minimize its employees' work load and also increase their social media’s reach. By constantly posting and publishing new content, the VHS offers its followers the possibility to engage and to share their posts and stories – even via WhatsApp.

And last but not least: Redesigning the website thanks to high-quality pictures. Our design team complemented the landing page as well as every other page using professional pictures with high solution. Furthermore, we have integrated a gallery – website visitors can view it by clicking on the respective link. Therewith, we have expanded the textual content using visual elements that illustrate the Volkshochschule’s concept.
